Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers

Technical

All types of shell & tube heat exchangers can be supplied - condensers, reboilers, boiler feed water preheaters, rod baffle type exchangers, primary and secondary transfer line exchangers.

Shell and tube heat exchangers are thermally and mechanically designed taking into account the performance requirements, design codes and specifications, plot size, vibration, safety and maintenance requirements.

Shell and tube heat exchangers are used to dissipate heat in many applications. They are predominantly used in the petroleum refining, petrochemical, chemical, gas, steel and power generating industries.

The advantages of shell and tube exchangers:

  • Lower capital cost.
  • Lower maintenance cost.
  • Easy leakage location.

Quality

Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers are manufactured in accordance with a certified quality system conforming to ISO 9001. Fully qualified inspectors ensure that clients' requirements, necessary codes/standards and internal procedures are strictly followed. Third party inspection authorities frequently visit and the works is approved by all the major inspection authorities:

  • UDT
  • TUV
  • Lloyds' Register
  • SLV
  • ASME U Stamp

Construction

Typically a shell & tube heat exchanger is made up of a tube bundle mounted within a shell. Shell & tube heat exchangers comprise:

  • Tube bundle with plain tubes or finned tubes mounted into tubeplates supported by baffles.
  • Shell
  • Head

Tube Bundles

Tube bundles can be supplied with plain tubes or finned tubes (low fin or longitudinal fin) and tubeplates to suit the operating conditions and clients' specifications. A bundle is normally made up of many rows of tubes supported by baffles.

Tubes

  • Plain tubes are the most common option and often supplied as U hairpins.
  • Low finned tubes are also supplied with the fins integral to the tube material.
  • Longitudinal fin tubes with fin U channels welded along the length of the tube. Fins can be supplied with slots. Fin material is normally the same as the tube.

Tubeplates

Tubeplate material is dependant on the process conditions and clients' requirements - carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, titanium, nickel alloys, various combination of clad plates. Tubesheets and baffles are machined and drilled in accordance with the code requirements. Tubes are secured to the tubeplate by expanding and welding. All stages of manufacture are monitored under strict quality control and quality assurance.

Titanium

Heat exchangers in titanium and other special materials such as zirconium are manufactured in "clean room" conditions.
